Course Overview

The General Duty Assistant (GDA) course equips students to work as nursing aides in hospitals, nursing homes, and home care settings. The curriculum teaches them to provide basic nursing care and manage ill patients’ needs. GDAs work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, emphasizing empathetic and ethical behavior in addition to patient care. Key responsibilities include daily care and patient comfort, safety, and health. The course aims to develop well-rounded nursing assistants who are not only skilled in practical care but also compassionate and ethical in their approach to healthcare.

The Duties of a General Duty Assistant

  • General Duty Assistants, commonly known as Nursing Care Assistants, Nursing Assistants, Nursing Aides, Bedside Assistants, or Orderlies, are responsible for daily patient care, medication administration, health monitoring, and comfort.
  • They ensure and maintain a proper environment for patients during their recovery period.
  • General Duty Assistants also ensure that patients receive a healthy and balanced diet.
